Our Story.
Ashley and KC reconnected on Hinge in 2023, more than ten years after high school. For months, they’d see each other on the app and neither would swipe. They’d just close it and avoid the decision. Turns out, neither had the courage to connect with someone from high school.
Eventually, KC took a chance with a casual “heyyy caro!” With some encouragement from a close friend, Ashley, who had been pretty anti-dating at the time, wrote back. KC was respectful and easy to talk to, and he slowly started to soften her.
Their first date (which they both insisted was not a date) was at Bar Flores in Echo Park. It ended with Ashley giving KC a friendly tap on the back, landing him firmly in the friend zone. When she then mentioned she’d be in Mexico City for a few weeks but maybe they could hang out after, KC assumed it was a polite no. But when Ashley got back, she did exactly what she said: she reached out.
And then again. And again.
What followed was a slow, gentle burn with no rush and no pressure, and each date felt a little more effortless. KC helped Ashley open up to dating again, and what started as a casual hello became a love that felt easy, steady, and right.
KC first told Ashley he loved her on, of all places, Sepulveda Boulevard. She was less than thrilled with the location, but she felt the same way. It was a very KC way to say something that mattered, and a very Ashley response to make sure he knew the setting could’ve been better.
In October 2025, KC proposed. Two weeks later, they moved to Dallas to start their first home together. Those eleven months away from friends and family became one of the most special chapters of their relationship. They found their favorite coffee shops and weekend routines, became each other’s constant, and learned that home has less to do with where you are and more to do with who you’re with.
Now they’re heading into their next chapter in San Miguel de Allende, surrounded by the people who’ve been part of their story all along. Funny how something they avoided for months turned into the easiest decision they’ve ever made. ❤
